What's new
Raptor Downloader gets better every week. Here is what changed on the website, in the desktop app and in the browser extension. The app and the extension update themselves.
Website
11 October 2026
- Instagram profiles: with the browser extension, "Show videos" on an Instagram profile lists the videos you have loaded on the page, so you can pick the ones you want.
- Pinterest share links (pin.it) open the right pin.
- Clearer privacy policy, in plain words.
- A new What's new page (this one) for the website, the app and the extension.
10 October 2026
- LinkedIn documents: download a whole document post as one PDF.
- Instagram photo carousels: pick the pictures you want from a post.
- Dailymotion channels and playlists show real titles, lengths and views.
- Files a site refuses for a moment are tried again by themselves.
9 October 2026
- Raptor in numbers on the home page: files downloaded and how many are downloading right now.
- Show folder works again when your downloads folder is on another drive.
- Big YouTube batches finish instead of stopping when YouTube slows us down.

Desktop app (Windows and Mac)
Installed apps download a new version by themselves and ask before installing it, so a running download is never cut off.
Version 0.0.6 · 11 October 2026
- Updates never interrupt you: a new version downloads in the background, then you choose Update now, Update when downloads finish, or Later (it installs when you close the app).
- Pick exactly the file you want: every size with its file size, MP3, captions in each language, cover, Vertical (Twitch), GIF, single pictures and LinkedIn documents as PDF.
- Picture posts and carousels: download all the pictures at once, or just the ones you want.
- Downloads panel: see every file of a download, cancel or retry one file, and show it in its folder. Downloads stay in the panel when a link arrives from the browser.
- Whole channel by name: choose the site (YouTube, TikTok, Dailymotion, Facebook, Instagram, X or Twitch); Twitch clips by most viewed and by period.
- Checked before you download, with a clear "What happened / What to do" when a site says no, and Try again.
- Recent links on the start screen, drag and drop links onto the window, and a notice when a download finishes.
- What's new after every update (this note).
- Up to date with the website: files a site refuses for a moment are retried by themselves; better LinkedIn, Pinterest, Dailymotion and share-link support.
Version 0.0.5 · 9 October 2026
Fixes from the problem reports users' apps sent (owner: "fix the errors"):
- Show folder no longer fails when the save folder was moved to another drive (31 reports: "Paths don't have the same drive").
- yt-dlp keeps itself current: once a day the app looks on PyPI for a newer yt-dlp (and its YouTube helper), checks each file's SHA-256, tries it in a separate run, and uses it from the next start only if that try worked. The built-in copy stays as the fallback.
- Big YouTube batches finish instead of failing (60 "blocked" reports): a refusal now pauses every YouTube download (90 s, growing to 15 min if it repeats), at most 2 YouTube downloads run at once with a short gap, and a refused file waits 2, 5, 10, then 15 minutes before giving up. Slower, but it gets there.
- Hide the Downloads panel with one click for a full-width view; the top button then shows how many downloads are running, and the choice is remembered.
Version 0.0.4 · 5 October 2026
The app now looks and works like the website (owner: "should be more convenient like our website").
- New screen in the website's colours and font, light or dark with the computer's setting.
- One or many videos / Whole channel, Paste and Download; several links at once (one per line).
- Everything ticked at the start: video, MP3, words, subtitles and cover, saved with one Download (no more one file type at a time). The choice is remembered.
- Channels: Newest / Most viewed, Tick 10 / 25 / 50 / 100 / All (All lists the whole channel first, up to 5,000; only numbers the channel has), and "N videos × M files = X files · about SIZE" before you start; each row shows its own size.
- Help inside the app: every step, plus a link to the full guides.
- When a site asks to slow down (HTTP 429, seen on YouTube subtitles for big channels): captions are fetched once per video for both words and subtitles, one request at a time, and a refused file waits and tries again by itself (1, 3, then 6 minutes) with a note, instead of failing.
- A single video saved with several file types no longer lands in a doubled folder.
- Whole channels with every file type are no longer cut at 5,000 files.
Version 0.0.3 · 5 October 2026
- The new Raptor logo: app icon, installer, window badge.
- Problem reports: when something breaks (a download, an update, the window, the engine), the app tells our server what broke and in which version, never the link, title or folder, so we can fix it.
Version 0.0.2 · 5 October 2026
A real app window instead of the website (owner: the software should be compact, not the website).
- Its own compact screen (
desktop/ui): paste a link, Get; Video / MP3 / Words / Subtitles and a quality choice; a size estimate; channels and playlists as a list with tick boxes, All, title search, Newest / Most viewed, tabs and Load more; "Downloaded" marks on what you already have; a Downloads panel with progress, Cancel, Try again and Show (opens the folder). Ideas taken from YT Channel Downloader (MIT): pick from a channel list, search the list, quality preference, size estimate, marks. - Settings: save folder (Change opens the system folder picker; remembered), videos per channel at a time, language for words and subtitles, thumbnails on or off.
- The engine serves this screen itself; the website is no longer loaded inside the app.
- Still online-only (checks raptordownloader.com at start), auto-updating and compiled.
Version 0.0.1 · 4 October 2026
First version.
- The window shows the live raptordownloader.com (WebView2 on Windows, WebKit on Mac); nothing of the interface is stored on the computer, and the app needs the internet (offline: "Try again" screen).
- The download engine runs inside the app on 127.0.0.1 and the page uses it through the app's bridge: every site, YouTube and Reddit included, downloads from the user's own connection into Downloads/Raptor Downloader. "Open folder" on every finished download.
- Updates itself at start (SHA-256 checked); versions below
minimummust update before they run. raptordownloader://open?url=...opens a link in the app (the website's "Open in Raptor Downloader" button). Windows: also when the app is already running. Mac: when the app is not running yet (an open app is brought to the front; handing it a new link is planned).- Our code is compiled to native modules (Nuitka); no readable source of ours ships.
- Asks before closing while downloads are still running.
- Windows: per-user installer (no admin), Start menu and desktop shortcuts, uninstaller. Mac: .dmg for Apple silicon and Intel, ad-hoc signed (first open: right-click > Open).
Browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
Version 0.0.15 · 11 October 2026
- What's new: after each update the popup says once which version you have, with a link to what changed.
- Store versions (Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons) leave out YouTube actions; the version on raptordownloader.com keeps everything.
Version 0.0.14 · 11 October 2026
- Instagram profiles: "Read profile videos" scrolls the profile's Reels for you and hands the videos to Raptor, where you pick the ones you want. It never uses your login or cookies.
Version 0.0.13 · 11 October 2026
- Recognize Instagram profiles separately from individual posts in the popup.
- Recognize X profiles without presenting them as an individual video or promising unsupported whole-profile downloads.
- Explicitly send up to 50 already-loaded Instagram video tiles to the website's normal manual batch choices. No automatic scrolling, session access or whole-account completeness claim.
Version 0.0.12 · 11 October 2026
- Instagram profile tiles resolve their own post links; Reel and carousel badges produce appropriate choices.
- A profile carousel opens its own post before collecting all pictures, instead of saving only its grid cover.
Version 0.0.11 · 10 October 2026
- Instagram popup and right-click actions resolve the selected Reel instead of forwarding a feed or stream.
- Reel cards without links use their native More menu's Go to post link; audio/profile/neighbour links are excluded.
Version 0.0.10 · 10 October 2026
- Wait for Instagram slide animations to settle before collecting each picture.
- Recognize LinkedIn document-preview image URLs when page wrapper labels are absent.
Version 0.0.9 · 10 October 2026
- LinkedIn document pages offer Whole document (PDF) separately from This page only.
- Instagram photo carousels offer All pictures in this post, read in order with the original slide restored.
- Prefer an explicit original LinkedIn permalink over a group reshare when both occur in the selected card.
- Whole-document links go to the website's manual file choice; older desktop apps are not sent a PDF request.
Version 0.0.8 · 10 October 2026
- Website handoffs fetch the post and show its available files/qualities without starting a download. The user chooses a single file or the existing multi-file pack on the website.
- Direct picture saves and the desktop-app handoff keep their existing behavior.
Version 0.0.7 · 10 October 2026
- LinkedIn company/feed cards without permalinks use that card's native Copy link to post action. A short-lived page helper observes only the requested post-link write; no clipboard reading or new permissions.
- Explicit original-post links take precedence over a repost's activity URN. Neighbouring cards stay excluded.
- Chrome Store package retains its YouTube restrictions. Website UI and multiple-link downloads unchanged.
Version 0.0.6 · 9 October 2026
- Downloads started from the extension are counted as such on the website (it opens the site with
via=extension), for Raptor's own numbers (files saved by site, type and route). The link of the post you choose to download is kept in Raptor's private record for 12 months, never with your IP address (raptordownloader.com/privacy/). Firefox lists this in its install prompt (data collection: website content).
Version 0.0.5 · 9 October 2026
Chrome, Edge and Firefox from one code base (owner: "everywhere everything the same"):
node extension/build.mjsmakesdist/chrome,dist/edgeanddist/firefoxplus a ZIP each; only manifest.json differs (service worker for Chrome/Edge; background scripts, add-on id and Firefox 142+ for Firefox). Mozilla'sweb-ext lint: 0 errors, 0 warnings.Firefox asks the user before an add-on sends technical data: problem reports are sent there only after a yes.
The popup builds its buttons from elements, never from text.
LinkedIn's new feed: capture the selected post's ugcPost/share/activity link or a group card's highlighted activity. Stop at the selected card so a neighbouring video's link cannot be used.
Toolbar and right-click downloads ask the page script for the selected, playing, or sole visible video instead of sending /feed/ or the player's blob URL. No UI or permission changes.
Group posts still require the local app's LinkedIn login when their video is not publicly available.
Version 0.0.4 · 9 October 2026
- The exact post, not the page (owner: "not grabbing the exact URL"): the button finds the nearest link to that
one post around the video, with each site's own pattern (
RAPTOR_POSTin platforms.js). Fixed in particular: YouTube's hover previews and new-style cards, TikTok's For You feed (no link there: built from the video id and author), Facebook feed share and watch links, Instagram feeds. - Pictures too (owner: "not hovering over any image"): big pictures get the Download button. "This picture" saves the full-size image straight into Downloads/Raptor (X at original size); when the picture belongs to a post, that post's choices follow. Needs the new "downloads" permission.
