In short
To download a Reddit video with sound, copy the post's link, paste it above and press Download, then pick a quality. Reddit keeps a video's picture and its sound as two separate files, which is why many downloads come out silent. We fetch both and join them into one MP4 before sending it to you.

Good to know
Why Reddit videos so often download without sound
Reddit hosts uploaded videos on v.redd.it using DASH, a streaming format that keeps the picture and the sound in separate files. The player in your browser loads both and plays them together, so you never notice the split while watching.
Most quick ways of saving the video only catch the picture. That includes right-clicking the player, copying the address of the video file, and simpler downloaders. Reddit also publishes a "fallback" MP4 for older players, and that file contains no sound track at all. The result is a video that plays perfectly but in silence.
The fix is to fetch both files and join them. We take the picture at the quality you choose and Reddit's sound track, then combine them into one MP4 without re-encoding either. Nothing is lost, and the result plays anywhere.
A few videos really are silent. Many "GIF" posts on Reddit are short videos with no sound track, and some uploads were recorded without audio. In those cases we offer no MP3 option, because there is no sound to save.
What people use it for
Keep a clip before it disappears
Posts get deleted and communities go private. A saved copy keeps playing.
Share outside Reddit
Send a clip to a friend who does not use Reddit, as a normal video file they can open anywhere.
Your own uploads
Get back a video you posted to Reddit when the original file is no longer on your phone.
Moderation and records
Moderators can keep a copy of a reported video as evidence before it is removed.
Key facts
| Works with | Public posts with a video uploaded to Reddit: full reddit.com post links and short redd.it links |
|---|---|
| You get | One MP4 with picture and sound joined together, or MP3 for the sound only |
| Qualities | The heights Reddit encoded for that upload, often several between 240p and 1080p |
| Sound | Joined in automatically. If a download is silent, the original upload has no sound |
| Not possible | Videos in posts marked 18+ (Reddit requires a login for these), private communities, image galleries |
| Links to other sites | A Reddit post that links out to another site holds no video itself. Paste the original link instead |
| Price | Free. No account, no app, no browser extension |
If it does not work
- The download is silent
- If you used our MP4 option and it is silent, the upload itself has no sound. Check by playing the post on Reddit with the sound on.
- "We found the post, but it has no video in it"
- The post is text, an image, a gallery, or a link to a video hosted somewhere else. For a link post, open the link and paste that address instead (Streamable links work here; YouTube links do not).
- "This post is private or needs a login"
- Posts marked 18+, quarantined communities and private communities are only shown to logged-in users. We do not log in.
- The app gave me a link with /s/ in it
- We try to expand these share links to the full post automatically. If that fails, open the link in your browser and copy the full address from the address bar.
- "That is the address of Reddit's video file"
- A v.redd.it link points at the video file, not the post, and Reddit does not say which post it belongs to. Copy the post's link with Share instead.
- The quality list is short
- Reddit encodes fewer versions of short or low-resolution uploads. The largest option listed is the best copy Reddit kept.
Ways to save a Reddit video, compared
| Method | Sound | Quality | Catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| This tool | Yes, joined into one file | Every size Reddit kept | Public posts only |
| Right-click, Save video as | Usually no | One size only | Often saves the silent picture-only file |
| Copying the v.redd.it file address | No | One size | The DASH picture file has no sound track |
| Screen recording | Depends on your device | Your screen's resolution | Records the interface; encoded twice |
Questions people ask
How do I download a Reddit video with sound?
Paste the post's link above and choose an MP4 quality. We fetch Reddit's separate sound track and join it to the picture, so the file you get has both.
Why did my Reddit download have no sound?
Reddit stores the sound as a separate file. Tools that save only the video file give you a silent clip. If our MP4 is silent too, the original upload has no audio.
Can I download Reddit videos as MP4?
Yes. Every video option is an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays on phones, computers, TVs and in editing software.
Can I download a Reddit GIF?
Yes. Most GIF posts on Reddit are stored as short silent videos, so you get an MP4 of the loop.
Does it work with v.redd.it links?
No. A v.redd.it address is the video file on its own, and Reddit blocks the lookup from that file back to its post. Paste the post's link, or the short redd.it link, instead.
Can I download videos from NSFW or private subreddits?
No. Reddit shows those only to logged-in users, and we never use an account to fetch content.
Is there a size or length limit?
Videos up to three hours and about 1 GB can be prepared. Reddit's own upload limits are far below that, so in practice every public Reddit video fits.
Do you store the videos?
No. Each file is prepared in a temporary folder and deleted within about an hour. The link you paste is not logged.
